Middle of the Night Shopping Spree

Kroger is doubling coupons up to $1 today, so Austin and I decided to make the best of it, and go in the middle of the night hoping to beat the crowds. We arrived at Kroger at about 1:40 a.m. and shopped until 5:40 a.m.. Who knew you could shop for four hours and not realize it? We left with 3 baskets of groceries, tolietries, cosmetics, and paper products! Here is a picture of everything we got. There are over 250 items there.

I wish you could see it better. Maybe if I get some incredible energy later, I will post a list of everything we bought. Our receipt for this trip was over 12 1/2 feet long, so it would take me a while to list everything! Here is Austin with the receipt.

Here are the numbers...

Total before any discounts or coupons: $ 741.79

I wanted to pass out when I saw this number. Then, I handed the cashier an incredibly large stack of coupons. This was the moment of truth for me. Was it all worth it? Had I wasted so much time the last two days finding, cutting, downloading, and organizing coupons, or was it really going to pay off? I waited for several minutes as the cashier scanned our enourmous pile of coupons and the total dropped, and dropped, and dropped some more, until finally we saw how much we would be paying for all of these groceries...

Amount we paid: $ 255.06

Total Savings: $486.73 (66% savings)

I think it was worth it! And, Austin and I had a great time doing this together. Who knew grocery shopping could make for a fun date night?

I actually paid $10 and went to a Southern Savers meeting, yet I still cannot figure out the hidden key it seems. Do you have multiple coupons for the same item? I have so many coupon programs too but cannot figure it out. Would love a reality check on all this. I have the time to give to this. Thanks! Patty

Hi Patty, I know it can be frustrating. It took me some time to get it figured out. I started at couponmom.com and have learned more over the course of the year. Have you ever been to her site? It is really helpful. A lot of it was trial and error at first, and then I started getting the hang of it with time. Typically, I try to get items on sale and use newspaper and internet coupons when available from sites like pg esaver, upromise, cellfire, shortcuts.com. They all load coupons to your shoppers card that automatically apply when you check out. If you haven't already, check out couponmom.com. Feel free to ask me any questions. I will try to help as much as I can.
